Manufacturing Engineer / NC Programmer – Level 1

Job Description:

This position exists as a developmental role to bring new Manufacturing Engineering and CNC programming talent into the engineering department at Asco Aerospace USA. The role will work closely with fully experienced Manufacturing Engineers, CNC programmers and Fixture Designers to develop appropriate skills. Job focus will be split between process improvements to existing projects and assisting in the development of methods for new contracts.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Definition of machining process including number of operations, clamping mode for all different operations, features to be machined within every operation, probing needs, etc. to meet customer specifications
  • Participating in continuous improvement and cost reduction projects
  • Provide technical support for production
  • Use problem solving techniques to assist in improving quality and productivity
  • Understands and uses continuous improvement tools.
  • Assist in developing robust, capable manufacturing processes for the machining of complex aerospace components
  • NC-Programming using CATIA V5
  • Post-processing with existing post-processors
  • Checking NC-programs with Vericut
  • Verification of cutting tool data in TDM (Tool Data Management) and Vericut Libraries
  • Participating in establishing fixturing/method/cutting tools cutting conditions
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineer to develop cutting strategies
  • Produce appropriate documents including validation sheets, control plans, work instructions
  • Assist in establishing cutting and hand tool requirements
  • Use problem solving techniques to improve quality and productivity
  • Learn the use of continuous improvement tools and demonstrate the application thereof.
  • Assist in the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes and technologies where appropriate

Profile:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Technical Training, Diploma or Degree in CNC Programming or at least 4 years’ experience as CNC machinist.

Skills / Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated past job performance as being self-motivated to learn and grow.
  • Demonstrated balance between seeking assistance and self-learning
  • Ability to learn technical topics quickly and apply that learning in wider circumstances.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue-prints
  • Basic understanding of “Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing” GD&T
  • Previous training in CNC programming or hands-on experience with creating/editing CNC programs at the shop floor level
  • Ability to apply logical problem solving techniques.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement tools.
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels in the organization while remaining customer oriented
  • Applies previous learning independently and appropriately.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours depending on the need
  • Analytical thinking, rigorous, assertive, motivated
  • Must exercise care and safe work practices
  • Perform other duties as required
